I understand how it feels to struggle with learning a language. I’ve also learned a second language and it has helped me understand what you might go through learning Japanese. I grew up in Japan and love my language and culture very much. I’ve always had a sense of adventure and exploring the world. This led me to many years of living abroad. I’ve lived, studied, and taught lessons in the USA, China, and Japan. My master’s degree is in linguistics and I enjoy teaching Japanese for an American university. The communicative approach is a priority in my classroom and I believe language learning should be fun and creative.

Students bring out the fun in me. I love seeing people open their minds and expand their borders. Life experiences and diligence to learning make for a wonderful life. This is why teaching has been so satisfying to me. I have spent much of my life working as a teacher for students with international futures at an international school for children in Japan. My educational background supports this and I’ve had the privilege of teaching young people from kindergarten age through high school. It is a pleasure to teach the Japanese language.

At Online Japanese with Mika, we know you are the type of person who wants to be a great Japanese speaker. In order to improve your Japanese language skills, you need an instructor who can take you to the next level, as well as answer your questions. The problem is you don’t have anyone to guide you and teach you how to speak Japanese better, which takes away your confidence of speaking Japanese.
We believe that no one needs to try to figure out the Japanese language on their own. We understand because we have also worked hard at learning a second language. That’s why we are able to provide great instruction for Japanese learners. We also have the experience of teaching hundreds of students how to speak Japanese in an American university setting, as well as through private lessons.
Here’s how it works. First, you schedule a lesson with one of our instructors to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your Japanese language skills. Then, you and the instructor will create a plan for acquiring the Japanese language skills you need. Finally, you’ll see yourself reaching your goals and becoming a better Japanese speaker.
